Perstorp, one of the key player in non-phthalate plasticizer category, announced its capacity increase for production of its brand PevalenTM, under which it sells its sells Pentaerythritol Tetravalerate (PETV). The company entered into a long-term production contract with Italian firm Alcoplast Srl. more than doubling its current capacity to 50,000 tons per year. The production increase shall be applicable since 2019 which is expected to bring down the cost considering the economies of scale for production.
Globally, the phthalate plasticizers are the ones which dominate the market, which is consumed largely in flexible Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) production enhancing the elasticity of polymer. There have been many articles circulating the harmful effects of phthalate plasticizers which are migrating from polymer and polluting environment being toxic in nature. On the other hand, the non-phthalate plasticizers are gaining the market share specifically in the targeted segment of direct human contact product applications. Almost all the organizations from consumer, suppliers, and independent opinion leaders, hold the same view of high growth in non-phthalate plasticizer market.
Perstorp’s capacity increase is targeted towards increased demand of pure non-phthalate plasticizer demand in above mentioned category with products such as toys & Childcare products, sports products, apparel, floors / wall coverings, automotive & indoor interiors among other. According to the Perstorp’s announcement, the product is becoming increasingly popular with consumers targeting these applications and the company is targeting more capacity expansion with objective of increasing overall demand to more than 100,000 tons of PevalenTM to meet the increasing demand in future.
