October - National Cyber Security Awareness Month
National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is an annual campaign, which is a collaboration between US Department of Homeland Security and National Cyber Security Alliance launched in October 2004. It’s been 15 years of NCSAM and from the time of inception this effort between the government and industry has grown exponentially. These efforts were made to create awareness about cyber security and focus on American citizen’s needs regarding safety and cybersecurity.
Themes for NCSAM 2018
NCSAM in each week of October focuses on various theme which addresses specific challenges and opportunities associated with security.
1st Week: Oct. 15
This week will focus on basics of cybersecurity which should be followed by entire family to protect their network and mobile devices from cyberthreats.
2nd Week: Oct. 8-12
This week will focus towards career in cybersecurity as there are limited number of cyber professionals, this week will also address different ways to inspire students to choose career in cybersecurity.
3rd Week: Oct. 15-19
This week will focus on workforce responsibilities to ensure organization’s online safety and security and will focus on educating and training workforce.
4th Week: Oct. 22-26
This week will address the roles and responsibilities of public in keeping the nation’s critical infrastructure safe and will highlight the importance of keeping it safe.
NCSAM have a large impact on society by raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. NCSAM through various initiatives and several events involves and educate small and medium-sized businesses, educational institutions, corporations, public and private sector, and consumers across the nation to increase awareness that no business or government entity or individual is solely responsible for securing IT, everyone has responsibility in securing devices and networks they use.
