Apple launched its own primary care health clinics called AC Wellness in February 2018, following Amazon and Warren Buffett’s push into healthcare. Through Apple subsidiary AC Wellness, the tech giant will offer primary-care clinics around Santa Clara County. The clinics will initially serve Apple employees and their families, and one will be at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
Previously, Amazon has teamed up with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase in January 2018, to provide affordable healthcare options to employees, as according to the studies, almost 69 million workers miss work because of a health problem. AC Wellness has already hired more than 40 people to provide concierge health and wellness services to its Bay Area employees. The company has brought on a range of health providers and technologists since February, with the majority joining within the past three months. Apple has also partnered with Stanford School of Medicine using its Apple Watch and its heart rate sensor.
Apple reportedly has more than 120,000 employees, and with healthcare one of the largest staffing costs, it will be seeking to reduce its outlay by bringing services in-house and leveraging proactive schemes to improve worker health. Many primary care providers, employers and start-ups are at the forefront of this trend, believing that it’s a way to save money while improving the patient care experience. Many health insiders expect that the Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and J.P. Morgan partnership group will focus more on this approach in the future for the sake of their employees.
